Opened in 1917, this thriving military hub is named after Civil War general George G. Meade who served as commander of the Army of the Potomac. Originally built as a training camp, today Fort Meade is home to the Defense Information School, Defense Media Activity and U.S. Army Field Band. Fort Meade, MD is also the current headquarters for U.S. Cyber Command, National Security Agency, Defense Courier Service and Defense Information Systems Agency. There is also a museum with historical treasures, uniforms, equipment, vehicles, an armored personnel carrier and helicopter.

Hours -The base is open 24/7; however, non-military personnel without valid Department of Defense-issued ID cards, must first obtain a daily visitor pass from the Visitor Control Center, which is open M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
